You are listening to the Curate Your Life podcast with Temetria episode 111. Hi, I'm Temetria a single woman in midlife. But not quite ready for the Moomoo life. I'm focused on curating a life that I love. A life that is bold and vibrant and full of purpose. And I'm passionate about helping other women do the same. So join me. If you're ready to create curate a big, bold, beautiful life that you love. So today we are talking about the Curate Your Life process, which is the three step process that I formulated to help you create a life that you love, to help you transform your life. This is the process that I use to create to guide how I live my life, and it's the process that I use with my clients when I'm coaching them one-on-one. It's a simple process on paper, but when you get into living it, it becomes a little bit more complicated. And we'll talk about why as we go through the steps of the process. So I am breaking this deep dive into the curate your life. Process down into three parts, um, into a three part series of the podcast so we can really explore each step of the process. I named it the curate Your Life process because when you are changing your life or transforming your life, it is very rare that you are flipping a switch and all of a sudden being something different or changing. Overnight or having a different life at the snap of a finger. It's about transforming and evolving. It's a process. And you probably don't need or want to burn it all down to rebuild it. That is where the curating comes in. So the definition of curate is to take charge of, or organize, to pull together or sift through for presentation to apply selectivity and taste to so again, you are not going to burn it all down and start over. You're taking charge of your life, organizing it in a way that makes sense for you. You are sifting through your life and deciding. What stays and what goes, you're being selective and honoring your taste. So think of you curating your life like a museum would curate an exhibit or like a five star hotel delivers a curated experience. So the steps of the curate your life process are, one, get clear on your vision. Two, subtract or eliminate or stop doing what does not fit that vision. And three, add or bring in or do what creates or enhances that vision. That's it. That's all there is to it. Simple, right? As my dad would say, yes and no. And I always kind of rolled my eyes when he said that, but it really is the right answer a lot of times in life. Yes and no. So today we are going to focus on and talk about the vision. Step one, creating the vision. This is everything in the curate your life process. You have to be crystal clear on what your vision is for your life, what you want out of your life, and why you want it, the why, why it's important to you. This step is crucial because in any journey, even if it's just a trip to the grocery store, you need to know where you're going and why you're going. Have you ever gone to the grocery store without a list and ended up at home with everything except what you actually needed? That one thing that you popped into the store to get, because when you walked into the store, there was a display of the latest protein bar that your favorite actress. Used to get in the best shape of her life and there's a BOGO offer for it, or there's a chef at the center of the store with a microphone doing a demo and handing out samples, and you get in your car with a bag full of stuff that the marketing people wanted you to get, but not the one thing that you went in there to get. So it's kind of the same with your life, knowing where you're going and why helps to keep you focused on what you want for your life. You want to write the Great American novel, but your grandmother insisted that when you were a little girl, all you talked about was being a lawyer. So why would you leave that stability of a law firm for foolishness years after your grandmother has gone on the glory, you're sitting in that office and you've made partner, but you're burnout and you're miserable. That is why when I am working with clients, when we. Are working on this step. I really make sure that it's what they want and it's their why behind it. You need to know where you're going in your life and what you want in your life if you're ever gonna get there in habit. And you may say, well, I know what I want, but ask yourself, is it clear? Is it specific and very clear. So much so that if somebody walked up to you and said, I want to give you what you want in your life, or I wanna help you achieve it, tell me right now what is it? Could you articulate that clearly with minute details so they know exactly. What you want and what they're granting you or giving you. Because if it's something like, I wanna be happy, or I want a new car, or I want money and, and I wanna be independently wealthy, or I wanna meet the love of my life. All of those are nice things, but how is that person gonna know exactly what you want? What is happy for you? What does that mean for you? What has to be in place for you to be happy? Who are you with? Where are you? What do most of your days consist of is happy you get a free pass to the latest. Feel good blockbuster and free popcorn. Maybe that'll make you happy for a bit, but what if happy for you is being by the ocean where you can write and watch the sun rise and sunset every day. Or a cozy place where you can make great meals and entertain friends. Or what if happy for you is a shot at being a race car driver? Think about it. Could you tell somebody in great detail what would make you happy? If it's the money, how much money do you need to be independently wealthy? Is it enough to sit at home and have all the bills paid? That might be the dream. Or is it enough to travel the world, or is it enough that you can make significant donations to causes that are important to you, that you're passionate about? Or is it all of those. But there needs to be specific details behind it. There needs, in that case, it would be a number. So it's not just important to know what you want in case you come across some kind, benefactor. It's essential to know what you want and why. So you have purpose to your life. You have a path that you're traveling on. So you have to build the vision, you have to create the vision, and there are three important things about this step that I want you to keep in mind. One is to allow yourself to go all the way. Dream the big dream. Why not anything is possible? And if you're going to be working on creating a life, working on living your life, why not work towards your dream? So when you're doing the work, when you're in it, you're working towards something that's fantastic, not something that's just mediocre. And the second thing that I want you to keep in mind is this is your dream, not an attempt to make somebody else happy or to live a life that they would approve of. If you are true to yourself and living a life that genuinely lights you up and fulfills your purpose, you will be a powerful, positive force in this world, and that will be a blessing to others. You'll be living into your purpose, and that's not only life changing for you, but it really is world changing because I promise you that those pent up, ticked off people that you come across. You know them. They're perpetually complaining and bitter. I promise you. They are not living their purpose. They are not in control of their lives, and it's someone else's fault, and they have no idea how different their life could be if they took control of their lives and started living a life that they wanted instead of trying to control And please everyone else.'cause you can't make other people happy and that is not your job. Now I'm gonna leave the rest of that rant for another podcast, but just know this needs to be your vision, your purpose. And then the third important thing to keep in mind for this step is to know why. You want this life to know why this is your vision for your dream life, what it means to you, why it's important to you, what it would mean to have that life like that, and what it would mean if you don't have that life. You really have to understand the why behind the vision. Okay, so let's talk about how to create this all important vision. If you have been with me for a while, I bet you can probably guess. I want you to put pen to paper. I want you to write out your vision, what you want for your life in detail. Write about what your days look like, your work days, your weekend days, your vacation days. How do you start your day? What do you wear? Who you interact with and how? What you eat, how you spend your work time and your leisure time. How you end your day, where you live, and detail how that space looks and feels, what your relationships are with the key people in your life. And I actually have a list of questions for this exercise. If you come over to Instagram and DM me the comment, curate Your Life, I'll send you this list of questions. So I am@coachtemetria over on the Gram, so come over there, comment, curate your life in a direct message, and I'll send you this list of questions. And they're just really to get the. Juices flowing to get your thoughts flowing, to help you really create that vision. So anyway, you wanna take an hour or so and write out your vision and allow yourself to dream on paper. And I want you to dream. Really dream. We encourage little kids to dream about their future. Why do we stop dreaming? Now that you are at an age and a place in your life where you have the wisdom, you have the experience, and you can actually make those dreams come true. Why do we stop dreaming? This is the time to dream. This is a time to really get clear on your vision so you know what you're doing with your life. You know how you're living your days and why your why's are important. They are the factors that will get you off the couch when it feels a little hard. They are the reasons you will keep going. They're the reasons that a setback is not a give up. It's a gather yourself and try again. Your why is the reason that failure is a lesson and not a stopping point? If your why is I wanna be able to take care of myself in my old age, or I want the joy of taking my mom on a trip of a lifetime, then when failure shows up, it's not okay. Well, I'm just gonna give up. No, it's, let me figure out another way. Let me try another way to do this. That didn't work. What else can I try? And you want to list all of the reasons why you want the life that you envision. Because on any given day one, why may resonate with you more than another one. Because if your mom just got back from a great trip, when the going gets rough, you might be like, well, she's okay. She just had a really nice trip. But you still have to. Take care of yourself in an old age. So that may be the thing that day that gets you going. So that's why you need multiple why's, and you want to list as many as you can think of. And they have to be your whys, your reasons they have to resonate with you, just like your vision has to be your vision and all of your why's are equally as important. Wanting to be hot in a pair of jeans is just as important as wanting good metabolic numbers. They're all important. So that's step one of the curate your life process. Write out your vision in detail, like you're telling somebody a great story because it is a great story. It's the story of your life, and by God, if you're telling it, you better be telling a great story about your life. So one last thing. Maybe you have the vision. Maybe a long time ago you decided that this is what I want for my life or in my life, and you've been working towards that. That's great. I applaud you for that because that's a lot of work that most people don't do. They're just going through the motions. But I want to invite you to check in. Take this as an opportunity to revisit and see if it's still what you want. Because sometimes your vision will change and sometimes we get so far down the road, they're like, well, I've come this far. I have to keep going. I've put in this work. But you don't have to keep going. You don't have to keep working on something if the end result is not what you want anymore, if it's truly not what you want, not just giving up because it's tough. And how will you know? How will you know if it's truly not what you want anymore when you let it go? If it's truly not what you want, when you let it go, you don't think about it anymore. But if it's something that you're just giving up because it's tough, you will still get those little nagging thoughts about I should have or I wish I would have. That's how you'll know the difference. It's a gut check for me, it is always a gut check. Trust your instincts, and yeah, just know that what you want in your life now may be totally different from what you wanted in your twenties, thirties and forties. Or it may be exactly the same. Most likely it's shifted to some degree. So if the vision has changed, know that it's okay and you can shift your path and work towards that new vision. That's why it's called a process. That's why it's curating. It's. Pulling in, it's sifting, it's sorting, it's organizing your life to fit your vision. And that vision sometimes changes. Sometimes a museum will have to pull out a piece of a collection because it was something that fit the collection and it was a nice to have. But now they have the opportunity to bring in the ultimate piece for that collection. So they're gonna get rid of that nice to have and bring in that ultimate piece. So that could be the shift when the vision, this was nice, but now this is even better because your capacity to dream. Grows as you grow and as you evolve. What was a dream 20 years ago? Now you're there. So what's the next dream? What's the next thing? And not to say you don't appreciate where you are, but that doesn't mean that you can't but change, evolve, and grow into the next version of you into the next dream. Okay, so in the next two episodes, we will discuss how to begin creating that vision. Or maybe it's for you, how to shift and now take the new path to the next vision. So you've done the work, the vision is in place. Now, what's next? What are the steps to actually get you there? That's what we are going to be covering in parts two and three of this series, this deep dive into the curate your life process. So remember, if you want the questions to walk you through the exercise for the vision, come over to Instagram. DM me the comment, curate your life, and I'll send you those questions. Until next time.
